Home Energy Audit

 In Energy, Health, Home

This week we had a home energy audit done at our home by Affordable Home.  After years of recommending this process to clients and seeing it be done at listings, it was time for us to check it out for ourselves.  To our surprise, the blower door test (cool to see!) revealed that our home was already as tight as guidelines suggest.  Any tighter and we’d risk creating moisture or mold issues.  So, extra air sealing didn’t make sense for us, but the Affordable Home crew IDed other areas to improve on and we ended up with a beautifully insulated basement and full knowledge of where our home stands on energy use.  Affordable Home charges $600 for their home energy audit, which includes 6 hours of air sealing work.  Even better, Efficiency Maine is offering a $400 rebate on home energy audits, making the home owner cost for this service only $200.  Incredible value and a no brainer for making your more comfortable, saving money and reducing your use of heating fuel.  A big thanks to Amy, Evan & Brent, the Affordable Home team that did such an amazing job analyzing, insulating and answering all of our questions.  Absolutely check these guys out before we get too far into winter.  You’ll be glad you did.
