Birch Point on Petit Manan

 In Health, Leisure, Lifestyle, Nature

Taking advantage of another gap in the April showers, we recently checked out a trail we’ve always wanted to and meant to hike, with all our real estate business in Steuben over the years, but yet never had…Birch Point in the Petit Manan portion of Maine Coastal Islands National Wildlife Refuge. The trailhead is located at the end of Pigeon Hill Road in Steuben. The Birch Point trail itself is an out & back, about 4 miles long and all flat. Can’t say enough positive points about this hike and ashamed to have waited so long to check it out! You’ll pass through a myriad of ecosystems and actually get to check out two coastal points, Birch & Lobster. Birch Point offers spectacular sunset views and beachcombing. There are several perfectly positioned benches & adirondack chairs along the trail that invite you to sit, linger and admire the beauty that surrounds you. Really a sweet hike. With the Hollingsworth Trail also on the refuge and Pigeon Hill just before the refuge, this could make pretty close to a full day of hiking, all on the same peninsula, but with three distinctly different hiking experiences. To think, all these years, spending so much time outdoors and we’re still discovering incredible hikes like Birch Point. Thank you, Maine 🙂
