Biography
Raised in a home where real estate shop talk was often on the dinner menu, deciding to continue in his mother Julee’s success was a natural fit for Ryan. Seeing firsthand the fulfillment that comes from a well-run brokerage business, Ryan continues today on this well guided path. With a hard and fast, full time real estate commitment since 2004, Ryan continues to refine his education, knowledge and value for clients at every turn. He has become one of the most successful and respected real estate brokers in Downeast Maine early on in what will surely become a lengthy career.
While being raised playing in the sand dunes of Cape Cod, summer breaks brought the family north to Mount Desert Island every year. Visiting with relations and romping in the mountains of Acadia filled the day, most days for Ryan’s childhood summers. At a young age a connection with Acadia and the natural beauty of Maine was fostered and grows stronger each day.
After graduating high school, Ryan embarked on a seven year stretch of owning an ice cream truck business on the beaches of Cape Cod. The “work hard, play harder” mindset that has been his life’s theme got its start here. Running all aspects of the business, days were long, and when the weather was right, there was no rest for almost 4 months. Utilizing an intimate & innovative approach to “being the ice cream man”, Ryan concluded this memorable chapter by becoming the top ice cream seller among a fleet of 18 independently operated trucks during his final two seasons. On the beaches of Cape Cod, and now with real estate in Maine, personal, boutique style customer service has been a touchstone of his careers, and one that keeps clients consistently returning and referring.
After the fast paced and constant work schedule of the summers, came respectful compensation at the end of a long season and plenty of time to enjoy it. This reality awakened Ryan’s interest in travel and furthered his passions for mountains. Winters spent in Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, California, British Columbia & Japan, as well as extensively touring through over 20 countries, has brought an incredible perspective on life that helps to drive the success of Pemetic Purveyors and the clients they serve. Common ground is never far away from the many new, familiar & varied people that Ryan interacts with in a typical day while serving clients’ interests.
In 2004, Ryan obtained his real estate license in Maine, and truly, has never looked back. His real estate resume ranges back to the age of 24 as it continues to expand and pile on value for the Pemetic Purveyors client base. A focus to succeed and curiosity to learn has earned an impressive array of educational and experiential accomplishments. Consistently in the top tier annually for Hancock County sales rankings, the foundation for Ryan’s success is based on learning and effectively applying hard won experience. Sales include over 290 properties, comprising of homes, land and businesses. Ryan’s sales volume has reached $61 million and counting. Including the priceless depth of Julee’s industry experience that Ryan has been fortunate to tap into, his accomplishments and designations encompass:
- FCC Licensed Drone Pilot
- Certified Luxury Home Marketing Specialist (CLHMS)
- Accredited Home Staging Specialist (AHS)
- Certified Residential Specialist (CRS)
- Graduate of the Realtor Institute (GRI)
- Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR)
- RE/MAX Hall of Fame
- GREEN, Designee (National Assoc. of Realtors sustainable real estate practice designation)
- Licensed at “Broker” level, the highest licensure status in Maine
A level head and well-built relationships with local brokers brought the opportunity to serve on the Mid-Coast Board of Realtors “Grievance Committee”, which aims to productively resolve disputes between local Realtors. This networking and respect gained from area colleagues magnifies the impact Pemetic Purveyors has for their clients, whether selling or buying.
In 2014, Ryan made the best (perhaps luckiest) decision of his life when marrying his long time sweetheart, Kaitlyn Metcalf. Since then, Kaitlyn has woven her unique skills of artistry, design and social media know-how into the Pemetic Purveyors suite of service offerings. Living, playing and now working together, this familial approach to real estate enables the whole Pemetic Purveyors team to achieve a rare level of efficiency and production for their clients.
With the slower paced winter months for real estate in Maine, Ryan continues to follow his passion for exploration. A good chuck of each winter Ryan & Kaitlyn dedicate to travel, outdoor recreation and unwinding after a long & intense “go” season. Backcountry snowboarding, chasing down remote hot springs, SCUBA diving, refining photography skills & sampling the world’s vegetarian cuisines are top winter priorities. During the long days of the warm season in Maine, time is peeled away from a heavy work load to tend a dozen organic raised veggie beds, discover new corners of Downeast Maine while re-visiting old favorites and log their 30 sails a year goal aboard their pocket cruiser “Big Ship”. And almost always this time is spent with the companionship of their Parsons Russell Terrier, Lily aka “The Goat”. A real “go anywhere, anytime” kinda gal!
Time spent volunteering in the local community makes up the remainder of an active life. Interest in local food systems and healthful living brought on many years of service with Healthy Acadia, where he served for 9 years on its Board of Directors as vice-chair, and still actively volunteers with their Downeast Gleaning Initiative. Ryan’s love of music is artfully put to work hosting “Reggae Reprieve” on WERU FM Community Radio since 2010, as well as currently serving on their Board of Directors. Pursuing what makes him happy & fulfilled, Ryan’s volunteer work has benefited the community he loves, as well as brought him closer to it in ways unimagined.
