Flying Mountain in Acadia

A fine day to hike the Flying Mountain trail. One of our perennial favorites, Flying Mountain wins the award for the largest amount of scenery in the shortest hike. In just a 1.4 mile loop, you’ll encounter pink granite scrambling, vast mountain top views down Somes Sound, gorgeous beach along a protected cove under towering cliffs and a gentle, forested return to the trailhead on an old fire road. And this is all essentially in downtown Southwest Harbor. No wonder we’re there so often!
